2016 Agency Tours for Congressional Staff

Department of Commerce/Illinois Institute of Technology

The University Technology Park is a university-government-private sector partnership consisting of a four-building complex, including the Technology Business Center, hosting a pharmaceutical company, university research labs, and the Idea Shop – a co-working and rapid-prototyping lab for students, the EDA/State funded incubator for life science and energy companies.

 Federal Aviation Administration

Tours will take place at three locations across the city, three times a day.

The O’Hare Air Traffic Control Center is part of a $6.6 billion O’Hare Modernization Plan. Tour of Midway Air Traffic Control or visit the Chicago Terminal Radar Approach Control Tower which uses radar displays and radios to guide aircraft approaching and departing airports.

Federal Bureau of Investigation

Learn about the FBI’s history followed by several demonstrations by the Evidence Response Team, Regional Computer Forensics Lab (RCFL), Firearms Instructor, and Crisis Management, intelligence mission and SWAT.

General Services Administration

GSA will host individual meetings with Congressional staff. They will discuss the portfolio of the state (or district). The meeting will include an in depth look at owned and leased properties, as well as upcoming leases in the area. There will also be a discussion about GSA’s outreach activities.

Naval Station Great Lakes

The windshield tour of the installation will go through the main side of the base, housing, and the Recruit Training Command (boot camp) – which trains over 40,000 recruits annually.

United States Secret Service

  • Tuesday, August 30, 2016

The tour will begin with a brief history of the Secret Service followed by a description of the Chicago Field Office Structure and Protective and Investigative highlights. The remainder of the tour will include visits to the 24-hour command post, the evidence vault, and the polygraph suites. You will also learn about the duties of the Counterfeit Squad, Financial Crimes Squad, and the Task Force Squad.
