MLK Day of Service
January 21, 2014 @ 8:45 am - January 23, 2014 @ 1:00 pm
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King and in conjunction with the Martin Luther King Day of Service, theChicago Federal Executive Board’s Community Service Committee is providing the federal community the opportunity to make an impact locally at the Salvation Army’s Harbor Light Center in the West Loop.
Harbor Light Center provides a holistic approach to the recovery process for those suffering from substance abuse. Through innovative and comprehensive treatment models, spiritual guidance, life skills training and ongoing support, Harbor Light helps those in need to move toward a life that is free from the bondage of chemical addiction.
Volunteers will help prepare and serve lunch and engage Harbor Light’s residents while they enjoy a hot meal. This is a great opportunity to start the year off right by making a small step towards impacting the lives of others…an encouraging word and the knowledge that someone cares can have a profound effect on the life of a person-in-need!
Volunteers are needed for the following January 2014 dates:
- Tuesday, January 21
- Wednesday, January 22
- Thursday, January 23
Volunteers have two options for volunteering on the day they choose. Volunteers can arrive at 8:45 AM and help prepare lunch until 11 AM, or Volunteers can help serve lunch by arriving at Harbor Light at 10:45 AM and assist with lunch services until 1PM.
Harbor Light Center is located at 1515 West Monroe Street, Chicago, IL 60607. It is accessible via CTA transportation. Transit time via CTA from the JCK, Metcalfe and Dirksen buildings is approximately 20-25 minutes.
